Why Consider a Doula?

Research* shows that families with doula support experience:

  • Higher likelihood of a vaginal birth
  • Reduced request / need for pain medication
  • More positive feelings about childbirth
  • Lower likelihood of a cesarean birth
  • Shorter labors
  • Fewer complications at birth and reduced NICU admissions
  • Enhanced overall satisfaction, particularly from the partners / fathers

  • Bonnie [she/her]
    Slater

Bonnie is a passionate birth doula with 27+ years of experience, supporting families since 1997. She has been present at over 700 births, bringing her calming presence and knowledge to empower families before, during and after childbirth. Her background includes working as a medical assistant in 3 midwifery offices, giving her a well-rounded understanding of prenatal care. She is also dedicated to fostering deeper connections, having studied authentic relating and communication. Currently, she shares her knowledge working as a birth and postpartum doula in Boulder Colorado where she raised her two kiddos. A few times a year, she trains birth doulas on the beautiful island of Maui.

  • Michele [she/her]
    Holland

Michele (she/her) is passionate about "peace on earth begins with birth" and pregnancy care too! She is a DONA International certified birth and postpartum doula, certified lactation consultant, and co-author of Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy - A Comprehensive Guide to Prenatal, Labor and Postpartum Care (3rd edition 2021). Michele's hands-on experience as a Certified Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapist, Certified Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy Practitioner, and Certified Infant Massage Educator also informs her doula care. For over thirty years, Michele continues to care for families by trusting and tapping into each mother's wisdom while integrating hands-on healing arts into her life and also passing on the teachings of these hands-on arts to new families and maternity care professionals in her online, in-person national and international workshops. Michele is very honored to be a part of Boulder Birth's doula team alongside the exquisite BBHH staff and her trusted doula sisters who join together in circle with mothers and families to manifest beautiful births as each unique family defines it. • Jetha [she/her]
    Marek

Jetha (she/her) is a full-spectrum doula who became motivated to assist and nurture others in their reproductive journeys through the unexpected opportunity of tending her best friend in her birth journey. Additionally, Jetha’s first daughter's arrival unfolded in an unexpected way, so when she became pregnant with her second, she knew she wanted a birth that she could surrender to and make peace with no matter how she arrived - enter the support of her doula!

Jetha is committed to creating a space of comfort and normalization in a time of unknown. Jetha’s primary goal is to emphasize choice, trauma-informed support, reflect intuition, offer education, resources and be a place of equanimity. To provide guidance, advocacy, encouragement and evidenced-based info for informed decision-making. She is honored to hold space as a doula, and also wears another hat as perinatal therapist. She trains ongoingly with various doula organizations including spinning babies, when-survivors-give-birth, and postpartum support international. She is infinitely grateful to all the people and families she has doula’d who, no doubt, have been her greatest teachers in this sacred work!

Please see Jetha’s website for credentials/trainings/certifications.

  • Kyla [she/her]
    Berry

Kyla (she/her) has been working with and advocating for children and families for over 20 years. She is a DONA certified birth doula, postpartum doula and birth & family photographer. She has been attending births for 14 years and has had the honor of welcoming hundreds of babies and supporting their families. The births of her three children, with the wise & trusting support of doulas, led her to her calling to become a doula herself. Kyla is passionate about honoring the sacred birth space and each family’s wishes.

Prior to becoming a doula, Kyla studied child development, earning BA & JD degrees, leading to her previous work as a child-advocacy attorney.

In her free time Kyla enjoys trying to keep up with her three teenagers, live music, roller skating (not well) and traveling with her family.

  • Haley [she/her]
    McNabb

Haley is a Certified DONA International Birth Doula, with additional training in Spinning Babies techniques. She is also an Infant CPR Instructor through the American Red Cross and a certified Yoga Teacher. She finds nourishment in the wilderness and the tender yet powerful space of birth.

Pregnancy and birth of her son fueled the desire to work with women and families through this incredible rite of passage: BIRTH. The personal experience of the birth has also solidified her conviction for the compassionate care of a Doula. Years of experience as a guide, coach, mama and surrogate contribute to her ability to 'mother the mother' during the pregnancy and birthing process.

Haley looks forward to holding space for both you and your partner, navigating the influx of information families receive during pregnancy, birth prep and birth, and to giving continued, grounded support while you bring your baby into the world.

  • Jackie [she/her]
    Martin

Jackie has been supporting families as a Certified Birth Doula (CD(DONA)) since 2011. She feels it is a profound gift to be invited to be a steady presence for all that emerges as a family’s birthing journey unfolds.

While being a doula and raising three sons with her beloved husband, Jackie also

served as the Executive Chair and Board President of an international development

nonprofit that has been working in partnership with communities in rural Haiti for over 35 years. One of her favorite parts of this multifaceted role was working alongside inspirational Haitian women to help create and expand integrated programming in education, health care, girl’s empowerment, and agriculture.

Jackie has a degree in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience from Vanderbilt University and a graduate certificate from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She also studied photography at the Kansas City Art Institute.

  • Jenevieve [she/her]
    Russell

Jenevieve has been intimately involved in the journey of births since 1996. In 2001, Jenevieve became a certified birth doula through DONA International, marking the beginning of her journey into full-spectrum doula work. As a doula mentor and a trauma-informed perinatal mental health psychotherapist, she brings a depth of understanding and compassion. Jenevieve's expertise extends beyond traditional doula training. She pursued advanced education in many modalities, including Spinning Babies, Hypnobabies/Hypnobirthing, Mindful Birthing, Survivors Giving Birth, Seahorse Birth and numerous others. Her greatest teachers are all the hundreds of families she's worked for, as well as her own family!

It is her profound honor to support families from all walks of life, embracing diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and family configurations, and meeting families where they are at. Jenevieve holds specialized expertise in working with single-parent families and LGBTQIA++ families, ensuring that every family receives the support they deserve.
